We are writing this letter on behalf
of the Women Peace Officers Association of California, Inc. (WPOA).
Each year the WPOA presents as many as four awards to Outstanding Women in
Law Enforcement:
The Award for Professional Achievement
(Management)
The Award for Professional Achievement
(Line Officer)
The Award for Valor
The WPOA Member Merit Award
Enclosed is a WPOA Award Nomination Form
for reproduction and distribution within your department.
We highly encourage all members of the
law enforcement community to take the time to recognize the courage, commitment
and outstanding achievements of your fellow law enforcement officers by
nominating them for a WPOA award.
*Individuals may make as many nominations
as they feel are warranted.
All nominations must be postmarked no
later than March 30 of any
given year.
The awards will be presented at the CPOA/WPOA
Annual Training Conference . Traditionally, the WPOA Annual Training
Conference is held in conjunction with the California Police Officers
Association (CPOA) Annual Conference.

2007 Award Recipients
On Monday May 21, 2007 in South Lake Tahoe, the Women Peace Officer's
Association paid tribute to three distinguished women in law enforcement
by hosting an Awards Luncheon in their honor. Tisha Smith, an Elk Grove Police
Department Officer was awarded the "Award for Valor", Diane Urban, a Captain
with the San Jose Police Department received the "Award for
Achievement-Management" and Shontel Sherwood, an investigator with the Newport
Beach Police Department, received the "Award for Achievement-Line Officer"
Congratulations to each of them and WPOA invites you to read each ones story
and applaud them for their heroic performances.
