SALARIES AND CLASSIFICATIONS

Reserve levels are determined by California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST).

*Reserve Officer 2 – $22.19/Hourly Wage Equivalent to Police Trainee

*Reserve Officer 1 - $27.73/Hourly Wage Equivalent to step 3 Police Officer

*Senior Reserve Officer/Annuitant – $29.68/Hourly Wage Equivalent to step 5 Police Officer

Reserve Officer 1 and Senior Annuitant -

Must meet and pass required qualification as described in section 1002 of the California POST Administrative Manual

Must have completed the California POST Regular Basic Course

Have the ability to perform general law enforcement duties both with and without supervision

Must have completed or the ability to complete a standardized Field

Training Officer Program

Must have current training certifications or be able to obtain them by the time of appointment

Reserve Officer 2 -

Must meet and pass required qualification as described in section 1002 of the California POST Administrative Manual

Must have completed Modules II (minimum of 189 hours) and Modules III (minimum of 144 hours) of the POST Regular Basic Course in modular format

Have the ability to perform general law enforcement duties with supervision

Must have the ability to complete a standardized Reserve Field Training Officer Program

Must have current training certifications or be able to obtain them by the time of appointment

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Minimum age requirement of 20 years.

Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful performance of duties and completion of training.

Ability to learn and perform work involved in operating and maintaining police vehicles, equipment, and tools.

Reside within boundaries as established by the City of South Lake Tahoe.

Possession of and ability to maintain a valid California or Nevada Driver’s License.

MISSION OF POLICE RESERVE PROGRAM

The purpose of the Police Officer Reserve Program shall be to cooperate with, assist, and augment the duly constituted Police Department of the City of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County, and State of California. In addition, the purpose is to recruit, train, equip, and otherwise prepare suitable candidates to become regular City of South Lake Tahoe Officers and to recruit honorably retired officers who will be beneficial to the Department.

Under orders and direction of the Chief of Police, Reserve Unit members shall render police services upon occasion, when such augmentation to the regular department is essential to the public welfare and safety. Unit members shall also assist in enforcement of law and order during any and all emergencies declared to exist within the City of South Lake Tahoe by the Chief of Police.
